Casa Boquera Yecla
A Taste of Murcia – Our Wine Adventure at Casa Boquera
The weather forecast predicted heavy rain across Spain for the first weekend in March 2025, so what better way to escape for 24 hours than with a trip to Casa Boquera? Nestled in the heart of Yecla’s wine country, this boutique winery offered the perfect retreat—a place to indulge in fine wines, delicious food, and stunning scenery, all while staying warm and dry.
The Journey to Yecla
The drive itself was a treat, winding through rolling vineyards and picturesque countryside. As we approached Casa Boquera, the impressive backdrop of the Yecla hills set the scene for what was to be an unforgettable experience.
Exploring Casa Boquera
Casa Boquera is more than just a winery—it’s a full sensory experience. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by breathtaking vineyard views and the warm hospitality of the team.
The winery has a rich history that dates back to its founding, where the vision of Kathrine, the owner, and her husband Harald, came together to create a space dedicated to crafting wines that reflect the authentic terroir of Yecla. Their shared dream was to establish a winery that balances tradition with innovation. Over the years, Casa Boquera has become known for its sustainable viticulture and commitment to organic winemaking, with all of their wines being 100% organic. Kathrine’s hands-on approach, combined with her expertise as a qualified sommelier, and Harald’s knowledge of the industry, have been key in developing wines of exceptional quality.
We started with a vineyard tour, learning about the Monastrell grape, the signature variety of the region, and Casa Boquera’s commitment to handcrafted, high-quality wines. The passion behind their winemaking was evident in every detail, from the careful grape selection to their aging process in oak barrels.
The Wine Tasting Experience
Now, onto the best part—the wine! Our tasting was led by Kathrine, who guided us through a selection of their finest wines, each with its own unique character:
- Boquera Balance (Joven) – A fresh and vibrant young wine, perfect for sipping on a warm afternoon.
- Boquera Harmony – A slightly aged red with a smooth blend of fruit and oak, ideal for pairing with tapas.
- Boquera Elegance 2017 – A rich and complex wine with deep dark fruit flavors, perfect for meat dishes.
We didn’t get a chance to taste the Boquera Special 2017 Petit Verdot, but we made sure to buy three bottles to take home—a promising addition to our collection!
Each sip showcased the terroir of Yecla, with flavors reflecting the warm climate, rocky soil, and expert craftsmanship behind every bottle.
A Culinary Delight
A visit to Casa Boquera wouldn’t be complete without tasting their food. We enjoyed a fantastic lunch, featuring grilled octopus, fresh shrimps, and a Codillo de cerdo—each dish paired perfectly with their wines. The combination of flavors was a true reflection of the region’s rich culinary heritage.
Final Thoughts
Our visit to Casa Boquera was more than just a wine tasting—it was an immersion into the beauty of Murcia’s winemaking tradition. Whether you’re a wine lover, a foodie, or simply looking for a memorable getaway, Casa Boquera is an experience not to be missed.
